According to Sinochem New Network, on November 23, the “Conference on Novel Humic Acids: Soil Health and Green Agricultural Development” was held in Xinxiang, Henan. At the meeting, the reporter learned that the most prominent challenges in the current process of agricultural modernization in China relate to soil compaction, low utilization rates of chemical fertilizers, and the need to increase grain yields. Humic acid, on the other hand, has advantages such as the ability to improve soil structure and enhance soil fertility. Currently, to establish healthy agricultural production systems, the industry is actively promoting the upgrading of the humic acid industry toward larger scales and higher quality standards. Gu Zongqin, president of the China Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry Association, said that the development of humic acid fertilizers has received strong promotion and support from governments at all levels. More and more farmers and cooperatives are choosing fertilizers containing humic acid, and its market acceptance is increasing year by year. Data shows that in 2024, the national production of urea containing humic acid reached 791,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 29.2%. It is reported that Henan Xinlianxin Chemical Industry Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Xinlianxin), as a leading enterprise in the field of humic acid in China, has developed a range of products such as humic acid urea and humic acid compound fertilizers. In 2024, its production volume reached 470,000 tons, accounting for 59.4% of the total national production. Not only that, the Heart-to-Heart humic acid fertilizer increases fertilizer utilization by over 10% and boosts yields by 8% to 15%, simultaneously improving the quality of crops significantly. Moreover, innovative practices in humic acid have also opened up new pathways for the phosphate fertilizer industry to achieve efficient use of phosphorus while promoting soil health. Xiu Xuefeng, president of the China Phosphorus Fertilizer Industry Association, pointed out that a large amount of phosphorus in traditional phosphorus fertilizers gets fixed in the soil during the same growing season, which not only leads to waste of resources but also affects the ecological balance of the soil. Humic acid acts like a \"key to unlocking the soil’s phosphorus reservoir\"; it can reduce phosphorus fixation through complexation and chelation, thereby increasing the efficiency of phosphorus fertilizers, and it can also improve soil structure and activate soil microorganisms, delivering dual benefits in terms of nutrient supply for plants and soil health. “Although the promotion of humic acid urea has achieved some progress, the industry still has significant shortcomings. Data shows that in 2024, humic acid urea accounted for only 1.18% of the country’s total urea production and 1.75% of its total agricultural urea consumption; there is still much work to be done in terms of promoting its use within the industry. ”Gu Zongqin admitted frankly. “In recent years, Xinlianxin has made certain progress in promoting the large-scale use of humic acid in urea, compound fertilizers, water-soluble fertilizers, and soil improvement, but it has also faced various challenges. ”Liu Xingxu, chairman of Xinlianxin, put forward three proposals: First, he hopes that the government, research institutions, enterprises, and those involved in farming will work together, aiming to increase soil organic matter and improve soil structure as long-term goals, and to incorporate beneficial substances such as humic acid into the systematic efforts to enhance the quality of arable land. Secondly, it is hoped to work together with universities and research institutions to address issues related to raw material sources, activation techniques, formulation science, as well as precise application methods, in order to rapidly and safely transform laboratory results into efficient and stable benefits in the field. Thirdly, it is hoped to establish long-term cooperation mechanisms with local agricultural departments, demonstration sites, and farmers. Through demonstration fields, technical training, and digital services, scalable and replicable technical approaches can be presented in various farming areas, enabling more farmers to benefit from the advantages of sustainable and efficient farming practices. Zeng Xiancheng, honorary president of the China Humic Acid Industry Association, called on the industry: “New-type humic acid represents not only technological innovation and product upgrades, but also a profound transformation in development concepts.” It is hoped that the industry can reach a consensus on the key concepts and actions related to humic acid, and work together to drive the transformation of the fertilizer industry and establish a green agricultural input system, so that more high-quality humic acid-based products can benefit farmers and bring advantages to numerous farming households. ”The conference also issued the Xinxiang Initiative, calling on industry professionals across the country to enhance technological innovation, standardize industry norms, and improve the market environment, so as to turn the humic acid industry into an essential driving force for the green development of agriculture in China and around the world. This conference was organized by the China Humic Acid Industry Association, co-organized by the China Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry Association, the China Phosphorus Compound Fertilizer Industry Association, and the **Fertilizer Quality Supervision and Inspection Center (Beijing), and was hosted by Xinlianxin.
