According to a report from Sichuan Meiqing Chemical in April 2026, the **key research and development project “100,000-ton-scale demonstration project for producing ammonia via hydrogen generation from renewable energy through electrolysis,” in which Sichuan Meiqing Chemical was involved, successfully passed the comprehensive performance evaluation. The project on \"Optimization and Control Techniques for Ammonia Synthesis Processes Adapted to Flexible Production\", led by the Tsinghua Sichuan Energy Internet Research Institute and Sichuan University with the active participation of Meiqing Chemical, was highly recognized by the expert panel. It was deemed to have overcome numerous world-class challenges related to the use of green electricity in the production of green ammonia, resulting in a series of innovative and groundbreaking scientific achievements; this represents a historic breakthrough in low-carbon ammonia synthesis technologies. In 2022, the 100,000-ton-scale demonstration project for producing ammonia through renewable energy-driven water electrolysis, carried out jointly by entities such as China Three Gorges Corporation, Tsinghua Sichuan Institute, Sichuan University, Sichuan Energy Investment Group, and Chengda Company, was successfully selected as a project under the **Key R&D Program. Since 2023, Meiqing Chemical has joined forces with Sichuan University to form a dedicated research team. By leveraging the production data accumulated by the company over more than 20 years, and using artificial intelligence algorithms, they carried out comprehensive simulation optimizations of key process elements such as synthesis towers, catalysts, and compressors. This approach enabled them to systematically address the industry challenge of adapting to fluctuations in green electricity supply while maintaining the continuity of ammonia production, and they successfully developed an advanced control technology system suitable for flexible green ammonia production. This technological achievement was evaluated by third-party authoritative institutions on two occasions, in 2023 and 2025, and obtained CNAS certification; its key performance indicators far exceed those of the industry: the production load adjustment range is 30%-110%, and the load adjustment rate can reach 2.61%/minute, thereby breaking completely with the long-standing technical monopoly and patent barriers imposed by foreign countries. Currently, this technology has been successfully implemented in the world’s first 100,000-ton green ammonia demonstration project, where it operates stably.
