Today’s discussion is about the layout of towers; since towers are equipment that accounts for a large proportion of the investment in chemical projects, they are also key devices for producing products and among the most common types of equipment. I hope for your understanding. The inspiration for the design comes from sudden collisions. Issue 7: Layout of the tower. In chemical plants, the tower is generally considered to be one of the most important, and possibly the largest, stationary equipment aside from the reactors. Therefore, the layout is designed around the tower, with pumps, coolers, intermediate tanks, and other devices related to the tower being placed in close proximity to it. Additionally, the piping side of the tower is on one side, the access hatch side is on the other, with the ladder located in the middle; the instruments are placed near the ladder. Therefore, the piping side of the tower should face the pipe gallery, while the hatch side should face the maintenance area or passage. For towers and vertical containers arranged in a single row, centerline alignment or tangent alignment is used; if they are located on the sides, tangent alignment is recommended as it provides a better aesthetic appearance. Towers with a diameter of less than 1 meter can be arranged in two rows, either within a frame or on one side. In the chemical industry, it is common to locate towers on the second floor (for PVC distillation, melamine production facilities, etc.), mainly to meet the NPSH requirements of the pumps; however, this practice is rare in the petrochemical industry. A triangular arrangement saves more space than a square one, but the distance between the two towers must not be less than 2.5 m. When the tower is arranged along the pipe gallery, a maintenance passage of more than 1.8 m should be provided between the tower and the pipe gallery. A passage for forklifts should be left where they need to pass through. Additionally, a forklift can turn in place around one of its wheels, which saves a lot of time when calculating distances; here is a schematic diagram of a forklift. The distance between the center of the pipe rack column and the outer wall of the tower equipment should be no less than 3 m; if this distance is not sufficient to prevent collision between the tower foundations, it should be increased appropriately so that the distance between the foundations remains at least 300 mm. When large towers are placed near factory buildings, attention must be paid to the construction sequence and the space available for lifting operations. The height at which the tower is installed must meet the requirements for operation and maintenance, with the foundation needing to be at least 200 mm above the ground level.
