What is the conversion rate of CO in methanol production from syngas?
This is a reaction at thermodynamic equilibrium, but under the presence of a catalyst and under equilibrium conditions, the formation of large amounts of water causes the reaction to proceed in the direction of methanol production. The one-way conversion rate is generally between 5% and 7%; however, since it is a cyclic reaction and the produced methanol is separated out, the overall conversion rate can exceed 80%.
