I would like to ask the experts: why is it difficult to use centrifugal pumps to transport fluids with high density? For example, bromine is generally pumped using nitrogen pressure rather than a centrifugal pump. My question: Since the density of fluids is high, a sufficient vacuum should be created at the impeller of a centrifugal pump (compared to gas centrifuges), but that is not the case in reality.
Yes, if a centrifugal pump is not filled properly and gas remains inside it, the negative pressure generated due to insufficient centrifugal force will also be inadequate. Then why is it difficult to pump fluids with high density (such as bromine) using such pumps?
I have no experience with bromine, so I don’t know whether a centrifugal pump can be used in a backflow situation. If it cannot be used, it is likely due to cavitation.
Bromine, also known as elemental bromine, has a density of 3119 kg/m3 and a boiling point of 58.76℃
We do use pipes lined with PTFE, but that’s only for corrosion prevention. I’ve also never seen bromine pumped using a centrifugal pump; here we usually use nitrogen pressure for transportation. :shut up:
Just because you haven’t seen it doesn’t mean it can’t be used; it’s just that the motor required is of higher power

My understanding is that, in simple terms, when bromine is drawn in while under suction, the centrifugal pump creates a vacuum, which lowers the boiling point of bromine; this effectively allows the bromine to be drawn into a gaseous state.
