The chlorination reaction is a hazardous process and is exothermic; chlorine and bromine belong to the same element group. By analogy, isn’t the bromination reaction (which is not a hazardous process) also somewhat dangerous? It should also be an exothermic reaction, right? I hope someone experienced can help; I’d be extremely grateful
Whether it is dangerous or not is relative. In my opinion, the temperatures involved in chlorination reactions that I have seen and about which I have information are quite high; some of these reactions even take place in the gas phase, with intense heat release. Bromination reactions are generally liquid-phase reactions. Chlorine is gaseous at atmospheric pressure and diffuses rapidly. Bromine, on the other hand, is liquid and diffuses slowly. Chlorine has high reactivity and reacts faster than bromine. Chlorine is stored in steel cylinders or large pressure tanks, and it is considered special equipment. Bromine is used at atmospheric pressure, in enamel equipment or ceramic jars. I haven’t thought of any others for now
I agree with the view from the second floor. If one wants to know the risks associated with such reactions, it’s best to prepare a chemical reaction risk assessment report, or conduct a HAZOP analysis, and then carry out a LOPA to determine whether a SIS is necessary. Generally, SIS systems are rarely used in bromination reactions
