What is the significance of the residence time theory? Tubular reactors and batch reactors are two extreme types of reactors, and residence time is used to quantitatively assess which type a reactor tends to be, right? But what is the meaning of such a quantitative assessment? In a tubular reactor, the residence time varies at different points across the cross-section, whereas in a batch reactor, the residence time is the same at all points. The significance of the residence time theory is to quantitatively assess whether a reaction is more like that in a tubular reactor or more like that in a batch reactor.
