Big brother, seeking help with isooctanol issues

Our company has designed a process in which isooctanol is dehydrogenated followed by the distillation of isooctaldehyde. However, from what I’ve seen online, it’s usually the other way around – aldehydes are converted into alcohols. Why is it the reverse in our case? Also, it seems that the isooctanol used as raw material isn’t synthesized through any other process. Could someone with experience please explain what’s going on here? And what’s the current status of the isooctanol cracking and distillation industry?
