I would like to ask everyone, is it necessary to install a gas holder? Are there any relevant regulatory requirements? I recently came across a project in which the carbonized calcium furnace gas is purified and then sent directly to downstream units for use; an exhaust pipeline with automatic ignition is installed in between, but no gas holder is provided. Is this approach in compliance with the requirements?
The installation of a gas holder is determined based on the design by the process engineering team, and there are no regulatory requirements for it.
Acetylene projects generally require the installation of gas tanks, mainly for adjusting the production load of upstream and downstream units as well as for providing buffering during maintenance.
Gas tanks are designed to serve as buffers by default; the specific regulatory requirements depend on your factory’s guidelines.
Gas holders are installed for gas storage during normal production operations; after storing the waste gas, it is burned through flares to ensure harmless treatment. At the same time, in the event of a production malfunction, the exhaust gas from production is directed directly to the gas tank, which is also designed as a contingency measure. If gas tanks are not installed, exhaust gases cannot be processed in a timely manner in case of malfunctions during production, which would lead to environmental pollution; therefore, the existence of gas tanks is valuable.
