Compression and expansion

I have a rather basic question: compression releases heat while expansion absorbs heat, but why does the compression process require energy during HYSYS simulations, whereas the expansion process releases energy?
Then let’s try it in terms of energy :)
The energy added in the HYSYS simulation represents work.

Compression releases heat, causing the temperature to rise; energy needs to be supplied； Expansion absorbs heat, the temperature drops, and energy can be generated.
By default, HYSYS uses a compressor and a turbine, with an adiabatic process
