How should the design temperature of the heat-traced pipeline be determined?

This post was last edited by Asuka Sky on 2022-9-5 at 11:20. I would like to ask the experts: Should the operating temperature of a heated pipeline be set to the temperature of the heating medium? For example, in the case of steam tracing pipelines, if the operating temperature of the tracing steam is 180°C, should the operating temperature of the pipeline being traced be set at 180°C, or should it be set at the maintenance temperature of 60°C for that pipeline?

According to Clause 3.1.3.2 of the Design Code for Industrial Metal Piping GB 50316, when heating is provided via heat tracing or jackets, the design temperature shall be based on the higher of the temperature of the external heating element and that of the fluid inside the pipe. According to this provision, if the temperature of the fluid inside the pipe is 40°C and the temperature of the outer heating pipe is 180°C, should the design temperature be set at 180°C?
