Upon reviewing the fire protection regulations for fine chemicals recently, the information regarding the amount of fire-fighting water required for outdoor installations is quite vague; there is no explanation on how to calculate it, and this information cannot be found even in the accompanying texts.

The calculation of the fire-fighting water volume is carried out in accordance with GB50974-2014, the Technical Code for Fire Water Supply and Fire Hydrant Systems; when the outdoor water usage of a building or structure is used simultaneously with the indoor water usage, the fire-fighting water volume is the sum of the two. When a system is used to protect multiple buildings or structures, the fire-fighting water demand for each building or structure must be calculated separately, and the highest value among them shall determine the water demand for the fire-fighting system. Note that this is not equivalent to the sum of the maximum indoor water usage and the maximum outdoor water usage. The fire water demand for a protected object or protected area indoors is the sum of the water required for fire hydrants, automatic fire suppression systems, and water curtains or cooling partitions (all of these systems being in use simultaneously). When there are multiple protected objects or protection areas inside a building, it is necessary to calculate the fire-fighting water demand for each of these objects or areas separately, and the highest value among them shall be taken as the building’s internal fire-fighting water demand. Note that this is not equivalent to the sum of the maximum water consumption for indoor fire hydrants, the maximum water consumption for automatic fire suppression systems, and the maximum water consumption for fire compartmentation or cooling. Automatic fire suppression systems include systems such as automatic sprinkler systems, water spray systems, and automatic fire monitor systems. The water consumption for the automatic fire suppression system of a protected object or area is determined based on the system with the highest water consumption among them.
Can an outdoor installation be considered a structure?
Not only in fine chemicals, but also in large-scale chemical plants, there are no standardized quantities
