Problems with the condensate extraction at the top of the distillation tower

At the liquid-phase outlet of the distillation column top condenser, one stream goes as top reflux while the other is sent to the column bottom. Why hit the bottom of the tower? Is it to prevent substandard products from being sent to the bottom of the tower? But by hitting like this, reflux to the top of the tower will work fine
It’s best to accompany such questions with simple diagrams, as explaining things by looking at the diagrams makes it more intuitive. Distillation requires a liquid flowing downward and vapor rising upward in order to take place. For reference.

Without any diagrams, it’s a guess – but the condensed liquid phase consists of an oil phase and a water phase; the oil phase returns to the top of the tower, while the water phase returns to the bottom of the tower
