The existing fluorine-lined pipe flanges are either flat welding flanges or slip-on flanges. Chlorine is a highly hazardous medium, and therefore welded flanges are required for such applications. The current standards for fluorine-lined pipes do not specify welded flanges; and even if welded flanges were available, the absence of slip-on flanges would make it impossible to install these pipes, thus preventing their use for transporting chlorine.
Fluorinated lining pipes can transport chlorine, as the fluorinated lining material offers excellent corrosion resistance to chlorine. However, due to the extreme danger of chlorine gas, flange connections generally require higher sealing performance and strength. If existing fluoroplastic-lined pipeline systems only have flat-weld flanges or slip-on flanges and cannot meet the safety requirements for chlorine transportation, they should not be used for transporting chlorine. Welded flanges that meet the standards for chlorine transportation must be used. If it is not possible to use welded flanges in fluorinated pipe systems, other pipe materials or connection methods must be considered to ensure safety. .
