On June 16, the launching ceremony for Xinjiang Qiya New Materials Co., Ltd.’s project to produce 6 million tons of coal-based methanol per year was held – the world’s largest coal-based methanol production facility of its kind. On the morning of the 16th, Tong Wenqi, chairman of Qiya Group, announced the official launch of Xinjiang Qiya New Materials Co., Ltd.’s project to produce 6 million tons of coal-based methanol per year. This project represents a major industrial strategy of its sub-group aimed at the western regions of China and Central Asia. Through the construction of this project, its sub-group will accelerate the development of the Zhundong base in Xinjiang, integrating mining operations with high-end chemical manufacturing and clean energy supply, thereby promoting the rapid progress of the group company. The project is located in the Jiangjunmiao Industrial Park of the Zhundong Economic and Technological Development Zone in Xinjiang, with a total investment of over 30 billion yuan. Wan Shihua, deputy general manager of Qiya Group and general manager of Xinjiang Qiya New Materials Company, explained that adhering to a path of green, low-carbon, circular, and sustainable development has been the original intention behind Qiya Group’s efforts over the past 30 years. The coal-based methanol project of Qiya New Materials Co., Ltd. covers an area of over 4,500 mu; once completed, it will be able to produce 6 million tons of methanol per year, creating more than 5,000 direct and indirect jobs. It can effectively promote the development of the coal chemical industry in the Zhundong region, contributing to the social and economic development of Changji Prefecture. Tong Wenqi said that methanol is the \"hydrogen\" of liquids and the \"electricity\" of liquid forms; it is an excellent carrier for wind, solar, and other renewable energy sources, superior to hydrogen, and also the best medium for energy storage in the future industries that constitute China’s new type of productive forces. Leveraging the abundant coal resources available in the Zhundong Economic and Technological Development Zone, the 6-million-ton coal-based methanol project enables the conversion of these coal resources into methanol on-site. The launch of this methanol project serves as a foundation for the group’s future plans to develop methanol-to-olefins production; it represents a significant step forward in the group’s development of the coal chemical industry, and it is also an important initiative aimed at exploring new types of energy storage media. Through this ceremony, Qiya Group will further strengthen the cohesion among its five key business segments: aluminum-based products, silicon-based products, new energy, coal chemical industry, and mining. It will also implement an industrial strategy based on the concept of \"four horses pulling a cart,\" thereby injecting strong momentum into the group’s development.
