Xinjiang is investing 7.459 billion yuan to construct a new 1.1-million-ton methanol production project; the environmental impact assessment for this project has now been initiated. The project, undertaken by Xinjiang Lanshan Tunhe Chemical Co., Ltd., involves the construction of a coal-to-methanol facility with an annual capacity of 1.1 million tons. Location: The Chemical Industry Cluster Area within **Huliang Industrial Park, Qitai County, Changji Hui Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang. Nature of construction: Newly built. Construction details: A new plant capable of producing 1.1 million tons of methanol per year will be built. This includes equipment for air separation and compression, coal gasification (including coal grinding), gas shift and heat recovery, acid gas removal (including CO2 compression), a refrigeration station, syngas compression, methanol synthesis and distillation, PSA-based hydrogen production along with purge gas compression, sulfur recovery and sulfur pelletizing/packaging, steam superheating, as well as water electrolysis for hydrogen production. Additionally, all necessary utility and auxiliary facilities, as well as storage and transportation infrastructure, will also be constructed. On July 31, Changji Prefecture in Xinjiang made arrangements to accelerate the progress of various tasks related to the 1.1 million tons per year coal-to-methanol project at Lanshuntun River. The 1.1 million tons per year coal-to-methanol project is a key construction project within the Lanshan Tunhe Qitai Coal-based New Materials Low-carbon Industrial Park. It represents an innovative initiative by the company to take advantage of the regional coal mines as well as wind and solar resources, in order to achieve integration between coal chemical processing and new energy sources. The company will accelerate the implementation of this methanol project to ensure its success. On April 18, 2024, the 1.1 million tons per year coal-to-methanol project of Lanshan Tunhe Technology Co., Ltd. was officially launched. The investment for the 1.1 million tons per year coal-to-methanol project at Lanshan Tunhe amounts to 7.459 billion yuan. The water-coal slurry gasification process is planned to be used, and facilities such as air separation units, coal gasification systems (including slurry preparation, coal grinding, gasification, etc.), shift conversion and heat recovery systems, acid gas removal units, methanol synthesis units, methanol distillation units, PSA hydrogen production units, sulfur recovery systems, steam superheating units, as well as various supporting utility systems, will be constructed (subject to the final feasibility study report). Xinjiang Lanshan Tunhe Technology Co., Ltd. is a mixed-ownership enterprise controlled by Xinjiang Investment and Development (Group) Co., Ltd. It was established in February 2008 and restructured into a joint-stock company in July 2011, with a total share capital of 494.47 million shares. The company focuses on the integrated industrial chain of fine chemicals and high-end new chemical materials. Since its establishment, it has been working to strengthen the infrastructure of this industrial chain, developing an integrated supply chain that includes \"BDO-PBS series of biodegradable materials/PBT/PTMEG/TPEE\". Its product portfolio covers basic raw materials for fine chemicals, biodegradable materials, new chemical materials, as well as innovative energy-saving and environmentally friendly building materials.
