The Wenzhou Xiaomen Island LPG storage and distribution facility, designed with the involvement of China National Chemical Corporation Tianchen, won the Zhan Tianyou Award. From October 22 to 23, 2024, the Chinese Society for Civil Engineering held its 2024 academic conference, during which the projects that won the 20th Zhan Tianyou Award for Civil Engineering in China were honored. The Wenzhou Xiaomen Island LPG storage and distribution facility, designed with the involvement of China National Chemical Corporation Tiantian, was successfully selected. The Zhan Tianyou Award is a national award named in honor of Zhan Tianyou, a renowned expert in modern railway engineering in China. It is intended to recognize and reward civil engineering projects that have made significant achievements in technological innovation and the application of new technologies, and it represents the highest honor for technological innovation in the field of civil engineering in China. The Wenzhou Xiaomen Island LPG storage and distribution facility supplies the cooking gas needed by tens of millions of households in China’s East, South, and Central regions, making a significant contribution to the regional economic development and the improvement of people’s living standards. Tianchen Company was primarily responsible for the design of the 2000m³ and 5000m³ spherical tanks in the Xiaomen Island LPG transfer station project. It employed advanced domestic manufacturing techniques for large spherical shell plates in this design, introduced a new layout structure for these spherical tanks, and developed a U-shaped column support system that enhanced the safety and stability of the tanks under heavy loads and strong winds. This technology has been included in the standard GB/T17261** \"Types and Basic Parameters of Steel Spherical Storage Tanks,\" and is widely adopted by the industry.
