In a plate-type extraction tower, the continuous phase and the dispersed phase are formed by the downcomers, upcomers, and tray plates. Then, what mechanisms are used to form the continuous phase and the dispersed phase in a packed-bed extraction tower?
1 For the dispersed-phase feed to the extraction column, a suitable distributor is used for initial distribution, so that it is evenly dispersed in the form of droplets within the continuous phase； 2 The filler type and material selection or surface treatment should preferably allow the continuous phase to wet it well, in order to reduce the coalescence of dispersed phase droplets.
Mass transfer occurs through the pores in the filler gaps.
