I would appreciate your advice: I am currently working on the development of a dry distillation process for lignite, and it is necessary to recover the volatiles generated during this process in stages and continuously. According to available information, the main process used for coal dry distillation is currently the multi-stage rotary kiln. I instinctively think that tunnel kilns are quite good – they can be heated using gas, and the smoke generated by the combustion of gas can create a reducing atmosphere inside the furnace; it can also be used as a high-temperature carrier gas. However, the recycling process is somewhat complicated, and there’s no guarantee that no leakage of gas will occur during recycling. Please discuss and analyze, and I also invite experts to offer their criticism and suggestions. Thank you
I think the use of multi-stage rotary kilns is aimed at enabling controlled temperature regulation during the dry distillation process. I’ve learned before that coal dry distillation involves complex components, and the products obtained at different temperature levels vary significantly. Therefore, the purpose of using multiple stages is likely to achieve this. In a tunnel kiln, the temperature distribution is continuous, making it difficult to regulate the temperature in separate stages. The projects we have been working on recently also involve tunnel kilns and rotary kilns; it was the first time we actually encountered these two types of equipment in a project setting.
