What is the principle behind the design of storage tanks for toxic liquids, which feature two water seal tanks – one connected below the liquid level in the tank and the other above it?
There’s a problem with the drawing: the thick blue pipe on the left should be below the liquid level; it serves as an overpressure protection mechanism for the tank. The one on the right is used for vacuum protection of the tank
One vents directly, the other vents under overpressure
It’s connected to the atmospheric environment on the left side – can it be sealed?
