Pressure buffer tanks are generally classified into four categories: 1. 5 minutes for distillation column reflux tanks; 2. 15 minutes for individual devices; 3. 30 minutes for units composed of multiple devices; 4. 2 hours for the entire plant
The fluctuation time during the operation of a distillation tower generally does not exceed 5 minutes, so having 5 minutes available is sufficient to ensure smooth production.

The distillation column reflux tank also functions as a buffer tank; if there is no feed or the feed is reduced for a while, the liquid level in that tank will drop, thereby serving as a buffer.
