When installing the reaction vessel, a steam drum is also provided; separate balance pipes are connected one after another from the inlet for chilled brine, the inlet for circulating water, and the outlet for steam condensate to the upper opening of the reaction vessel’s jacket (on the opposite side of the circulating water outlet). What are the specific functions of these balance pipes, and is it possible to operate without installing them?

The purpose is to balance the pressure.
Balance tubes are divided into gas-phase balance tubes and liquid-phase balance tubes; they operate on the principle of a communicating vessel, with the main purpose being to equalize the pressure at both ends of the balance tube. It either keeps the liquid level at the same height, or prevents gas from accumulating in the pipeline and causing poor flow of the liquid.
