It is required to separate ethanol and DMF for reuse; the purity of ethanol is not a major concern, while high purity is required for DMF – the ethanol content should preferably be no more than 1%, and no water must be present, otherwise a large amount of new DMF will need to be added when it is to be reused. The recovered DMF should mainly be free of water and as free of ethanol as possible; solid impurities are not a concern. The best method is not to use the distillation principle; it should be to separate DMF from ethanol, rather than evaporating ethanol from DMF. Ready-made equipment is the best.
