But what exactly is it that makes it difficult for us to feel the love in our hearts, leading us to hurt one another? When others make mistakes, there is exaggerated mockery; but have you ever thought about the feeling of wanting to hide in some hole when it’s you who makes a mistake? Do we really have to act uninterested when others are trying to sell us something, just to satisfy our own vanity? Do we really have to shout angrily to show off our intelligence when someone humbly asks for advice? When attending meetings and dinners, is it necessary to arrive late to show that you’re busy? . . . . . . We cover ourselves with so much hypocrisy and excuses every day, because our hearts are fragile and afraid of being hurt. . .
