The pH of the water entering the boiler is around 9, which is within the standard range; however, the pH of the water discharged from the boiler is lower, at around 7-8! May I ask why? ????????
The feedwater entering the boiler is treated with ammonia in the deaerator downcomer to raise its pH. After entering the boiler, the heating of the boiler water causes ammonia to escape, thereby reducing the pH of the boiler water. Boiler water treatment should involve the use of solid alkalizing agents, such as phosphates or sodium hydroxide, to adjust the sodium-phosphorus ratio in the boiler water and control its pH.
