A pump or a compressor can be used; a sliding vane pump is recommended for this purpose, as the vaporization of liquid ammonia is quite severe. Other pumps either cannot handle gas-liquid mixtures or offer poor cost-performance ratios; If a compressor is used, reciprocating types are commonly employed (I’ve heard that screw types are also used as well, but I’ve never purchased one). With a pump, the liquid phase at two points is connected; with a compressor, the gas phase at two points is connected.
It depends on what you intend to do with the liquid ammonia and what its purpose is.
