Buried tanks: Why fill them with sand?

Why is sand filled in buried tanks? This issue has been discussed in the forum, but it seems there are many different opinions
For petrochemical applications, saddle-type supports can also be used, but filling with sand is still the better option – it provides continuous support and good stability. Our company uses sand when burying pipelines in deep-water areas
1 Sand is an inexpensive filler； 2 Easy to excavate, and excavation does not damage the equipment ； 3. Dense, with few voids; reduces the mixing space and results in less settlement after sand filling ； 4 Probe insertion when easy to detect ； 5 The moisture present can dry easily and does not absorb water readily ；
The most important aspect is safety, as it reduces the space where harmful substances can accumulate
