Should I make the tee myself (by digging a hole) or buy one ready-made? ? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?
If you do it yourself, it’s difficult to ensure the quality of the construction, and the costs are high. In some cases, additional reinforcement is needed due to certain pressures. Standard fittings for tees can be installed quickly, reduce construction costs, and guarantee quality; therefore, it is recommended to purchase standard fittings.
For high temperature and high pressure conditions, as well as pipelines made of alloy steel or higher grades, standard tees are required; for lower-grade carbon steel pipelines, holes can be drilled in them

If you can afford it, go ahead and buy it; it’s much cheaper to do it by yourself, and welding isn’t even necessary
Is there any basis for this? I heard from people who do welding that the welded area is stronger than the main body – is that true? ?
The pressure resistance and cleanliness inside the pipe of finished tees are much higher than those of welded tees with openings. But sometimes, during on-site construction, it is found that a tee is missing; especially when connecting a smaller pipe to a larger one, it is common to wait until the material is purchased before making an opening on site to resolve the issue.
It’s not completely impossible, but doing this for pressure pipelines is not standard practice. Furthermore, the flow resistance of a tee with holes drilled itself is relatively high.
Of course, it’s better to buy something ready-made, as that ensures proper flow.
