A new unit is being installed; it is currently in the stage of three inspections and four determinations. A plan for purging the distillation system needs to be prepared. One instructor then said that in a distillation system, water is introduced first, and gas is used later. Should purging be done first, or washing with water?
One of my teachers asked, isn’t a distillation system first washed with water?
Rinse with water first, then blow with air.
It depends on the situation: 1. Purge---wash with water---purge--------------for relatively dirty systems; 2. Wash with water--purge------------------for average dirt levels; 3. Purge---(wash with solvent)—-------------------when water cannot enter the system. Generally, water pressure is higher than air pressure, so water is used first for cleaning, followed by purging (after water has done its job, purging is carried out again). Some systems use direct water pressure, while others use purging first and then water pressure.
