Generally, instrument air is provided in front of the liquid separation tank at the unit inlet, specifically for passivation before catalyst removal. Instrument air is introduced, and the compressor nitrogen circulates; heat is released during passivation. The amount of instrument air to be introduced should be determined based on the rise in the temperature of the catalyst bed. Wait until the temperature of the catalyst bed stabilizes and drops below the discharge temperature (usually room temperature). As a precaution, it is usually necessary to continue blowing for a few more hours after the temperature stabilizes, to prevent the catalyst, which has not been properly passivated, from coming into contact with large amounts of air during the cessation of the nitrogen gas circulation or the removal of the catalyst, which could lead to a rapid rise in temperature and damage to the catalyst.
