Dear seniors, I have a question: I’m wondering why gases are released into flares in order to avoid pollution or to get rid of certain flammable gases. Is such a flare similar to a chimney, functioning as a kind of exhaust fan that draws the gases away? Is that the case? Otherwise, what force drives these exhaust gases to move?
The previous system released vapor to the flare only when it was overpressured, and the flare also has a certain suction force.
A water seal tank is installed in front of the flare; gas can break through the water seal and enter the flare only if the pressure of the gas released due to unstable operation or an accident in the preceding devices exceeds the pressure of the water seal. The torch itself has a certain degree of suction; this works on the same principle as the chimneys in homes. The horizontal wind at the top creates negative pressure within the torch, and the gases expelled from the torch are mostly under pressure
The suction force of the torch itself, combined with the pressure of the gas, means that the torch is equipped with an automatic ignition system; it ignites and starts burning automatically when the pressure reaches the set parameter.
Whether it is venting or discharging, this occurs only when the safety valve of the upstream equipment or pipeline experiences overpressure, so the fluid being discharged is already under pressure.
Thinking of tall chimneys, why is it necessary to allow smoke to be continuously expelled while burning fire? What is the driving force? There should be a pressure difference
