Removal of suspended solids from circulating water

Due to the company’s environmental requirements, the suspended solids level in the wastewater must be less than 50 mg/L. Currently, the suspended solids content in the backwash water from the circulating water strainer is quite high, around 260 mg/L, which makes it impossible to discharge this water. What are some effective ways to remove these suspended solids?
I wonder if adding a flocculant will affect other parameters of the wastewater discharge?
Since the total amount of suspended solids adsorbed in the side filtration is constant, if you increase the amount of water used for backwashing, won’t the turbidity decrease?
