The company currently needs to install a set of VOCs treatment facilities; initially, a spray tower made of PP material together with an activated carbon adsorption tower made of PP material have been chosen, but PP materials tend to generate static electricity. I would like to ask fellow sailors whether PP material can be used as the material for equipment in areas with explosion hazards The explosion-proof lamp grade selected for electrical applications is ExdIIBT3.
It seems that there is now PP with conductive properties, apparently by embedding wire mesh within the PP. I haven’t seen the specific equipment yet; I’ve only heard about it. Is this VOCs treatment equipment used to handle acidic waste gases? Wouldn’t it be cheaper to use materials like fiberglass?
Generally, PP material is suitable for spray towers, as water is constantly being sprayed, so static electricity does not accumulate； Since the system remains dry during the adsorption process, adsorption towers are prone to static electricity accumulation when made of PP; therefore, metal should be used as the material.
Then the associated pipes also need to be made of metal! :o
