I would like to ask everyone for advice: My company has a project in which several solvents such as butane, toluene, trimethylbenzene, methanol, and vinyl acetate are used in the intermediate storage tanks. The capacity of these tanks is between 1 and 5 cubic meters. I would like to ask how to handle the exhaust gases from tank cars? Given the current environmental regulations that prohibit direct emissions, there are several exhaust outlets; can I combine them into a single exhaust treatment device? By using a main pipe to consolidate everything, will there be cross-contamination of the various exhaust gases?
It is recommended to use nitrogen sealing; after mixing in the storage tank, the emissions should be absorbed using activated carbon.
Your tanks are not large in volume, and they are merely intermediate tanks; a vent main can be installed, and the gas can be vented after passing through an activated carbon adsorption column. However, activated carbon needs to be sent to the relevant authorities for disposal.
This is how we handle it now, but I’m worried that various solvents might penetrate through the gas main.
Sealing such small jars with nitrogen is a bit costly.
Generally speaking, it is unlikely for these liquids to vaporize and then condense again. If strict control is indeed necessary, measures can be taken on the piping: first, the horizontal main pipe should be installed at a high position, and an elbow should be added when each vent pipe enters the main pipe from below, allowing it to connect from above. Add a backflow pipe to the main pipe, install a valve for regular inspection and discharge.
