Dear experts, I have a question: how should the spray cooling system for storage tanks be designed? We have a dozen or so storage tanks with a capacity of 100 cubic meters, used to hold solvents such as methanol, propanol, and isopropanol. Should we use spraying to cool them down, or is it better to insulate them with thermal insulation materials? If it is to be implemented using a spraying method, does anyone have blueprints that can serve as a reference? If insulation is to be used, which type of insulating material would be better?
For insulation, rock wool could be considered. Moving on to another question: why is it necessary to lower the temperature? To prevent material loss?
Should we consider exhaust from the tank top along with condenser recovery?
I’ve never done spray cooling before, but I have worked on fire suppression sprays, which are used to cool the walls of tanks in case of fires. It should be applicable in general; GB50219 can be referred to.
There is another method: apply thermal insulation paint
Using insulation to prevent corrosion... I think using paint would work, or placing it in a shaded area can avoid loss due to sunlight exposure
For organic Class A liquid storage tanks, to protect them from sunlight it is recommended to use insulation; the spraying system should be circular in operation. This approach is too complicated. Insulating coatings can work in the short term, but their effectiveness is poor over the long term
The purpose of cooling down is to regulate aerobic and anaerobic respiration, right? It is recommended to use insulation; the spraying system should also be equipped with a circulation and collection system, but it’s very difficult to use in practice! We previously built an alcohol storage facility that required spraying, and in the end it was very difficult to activate that spraying system! And it feels terrible to drive!
Add a circulating pool of several dozen cubic meters; use a pump to send water into the storage tank. Pipes are arranged in a circle around the tank, with small holes in them to enable spraying for cooling – especially useful when the temperature reaches 35 degrees in summer. 25 degrees inside the tank.
