A new hot water tank for collecting steam condensate has been added. To prevent pressure buildup, the hot water tank is to be buried underground; so which type of pump should be used – a submersible pump or an underwater pump?
1. If the tank is located at a high height above the ground, using an submersible pump may pose the problem of an excessively long shaft. When material leaks into the condensate tank, such a long shaft can lead to fires and explosions (I believe an oil and chemical plant experienced an explosion due to the issue of a long shaft in a submersible pump). If there is no leakage of material, then a submersible pump can be used; 2. Similarly, if there is material leakage, the submersible pump may not have an adequate explosion-proof rating; it is recommended not to use it ; 3. It is preferable to use a strong suction pump, with the inlet submerged underwater and the pump located on the ground. By the way, the condensate tank is buried underground – is that definitely to prevent pressure buildup in the tank, and not for fire protection purposes?
Installation distance? It is recommended that centrifugal pumps are more convenient!
We also have underground sump tanks; currently, self-priming pumps are used, with the pump unit located on the surface and the suction pipe submerged in the liquid.
It is best to use a submersible pump; submersible pumps tend to burn out their motors
Considering the condensate temperature, too high a temperature can lead to cavitation; installing a centrifugal pump next to the storage tank can be very convenient.
High-temperature hot water pipeline pumps are equipped with a priming tank; this is how we use them here. However, water often fails to reach the top, and cavitation occurs.
