According to GB50160, 6.2.3, for storing Class A liquid B with a boiling point below 45°C, pressure or low-pressure storage tanks are recommended. The boiling point of methyl tert-butyl ether is 55°C, so a tank at atmospheric pressure is sufficient. However, the List of Hazardous Chemicals Subject to Stringent Supervision requires that pressure vessels and equipment such as (methyl tert-butyl ether storage tanks) be equipped with safety valves, pressure gauges, level gauges, and thermometers, as well as safety devices with functions for remote monitoring and alarm of pressure, level, and temperature. Do atmospheric pressure tanks need these? How should specific parameters such as the setting pressure of the safety valve be determined?
Everything except the safety valve and pressure gauge must be present. In my personal opinion, it is recommended to consider the characteristics of the medium
According to petrochemical regulations, storage tanks of Class BA and above shall be equipped with nitrogen purging systems; furthermore, such systems must be fitted with pressure relief devices. DCS for pressure, level, and temperature is definitely necessary; I think a nitrogen seal along with pressure relief manholes are also required. Atmospheric pressure tanks do not require safety valves. The pressure gauge is used to account for situations where excessive pressure occurs due to internal leakage in the nitrogen pressure regulator and high temperatures
