Except in cases where the flow rate is specified by standards, the flow rate of ordinary fluids can be found in tables; however, it’s hard to say whether the data is reliable. How is the flow rate of gases and liquids generally determined?
Is there anything convincing or not? The term flow rate commonly refers to the concept of an economic flow rate. 1. The larger the pipe diameter, the lower the flow velocity, and thus the less pipe loss; accordingly, the operating costs of the pressure enhancement equipment are lower. However, the initial investment is high when increasing the pipe diameter. 2. The smaller the pipe diameter, the higher the flow velocity and thus the greater the pipe losses; accordingly, the operating costs of the pressure enhancement equipment increase. However, smaller pipes result in lower initial investment. So there is an investment cost and an operating cost; the sum of these two constitutes the total cost. There is a minimum value, and the corresponding flow rate is what is referred to as the economic flow rate. Typically, the speed for liquids is 1–2 m/s, while for gases it is around 15–20 m/s. It can also be looked up in a table; the optimal flow rate varies slightly depending on the medium.
