The scope of this question is too broad. To put it simply, in most processes for producing caustic soda, a solution with a concentration of around 20% is obtained first. Whether it becomes caustic soda or in granular form, evaporation requires a large amount of energy. If alkali units can use liquid caustic, which is convenient and inexpensive to transport, liquid caustic will be given priority (as it is relatively cheap, but not economically viable for long-distance transportation).
