I want to add water to the reactor intermittently, in fixed amounts each time. The pipes are made of PVC, while the pump should be made of stainless steel. How to do it?
Either add a level gauge (a water measurement tank in front) or a flow meter; using either the level gauge or the flow meter to control the pump is the simplest approach.
The pump starts and stops based on the liquid level, but a fixed volume is required; can the cumulative flow be used to trigger the pump to stop? Since the piping is made of PVC, it’s easier to discuss the details, including product selection and cost implications. I’m not familiar with electrical control systems
Isn’t a level interlock great? Provide the pump with a self-circulation pipeline: automatic water replenishment when the liquid level is low, and the valve closes when the level is high, enabling self-circulation
I think using a PLC for control, along with a flow meter to regulate the valve, ensures accurate dosing; the valve closes when the set time is reached or the desired amount has been delivered.
Considering costs, it is advisable to use a suitable metering tank, install a switch-type level gauge, and add a metering pump. The metering pump is used to regulate the flow rate; the pump stops when the liquid level is low (it needs to be started manually). The low and high liquid level levels control the inlet valve of the metering tank – water flow is allowed when the level is low, and it is stopped when the level is high. If you want to save even more, choose a centrifugal pump and add a loop at the outlet; by using this loop to control the pump flow, you can save a little bit. If your “quantitative” value changes frequently, choose a differential pressure type level gauge; it’s not expensive either.
