There are various methods for analyzing the calorific value of gas. The laboratory can use a gas calorimeter, or determine it through calculation after analyzing the composition using chromatography. For online monitoring, there are also dedicated combustion calorimeters; both Yokogawa Electric in Japan and Thermo Electron Corporation in the United States produce such online analyzers. Online chromatography can also be used for the same analysis. If it is natural gas, the calorific value can also be roughly determined by analyzing its density.
