Is its function different from that of a valve? This process route goes from v103 to v104 ; Or proceed from v103 to v113. If the material temperature is too low, measures will be taken to ensure that the material returns from v103 to v113 for heating. So v102 and this blind flange are probably redundant and do not function. I’m not sure if this is correct
It should be available in the device’s user manual, for reference.
It can be seen that the direction of the V-102 shut-off valve is opposite to that of the normal process flow. Under normal conditions, this valve and the blind flange should be in a sealed state to serve as a barrier, and should only be used during startup and shutdown operations.

Isolation? Don’t the valve and the blind plate serve the same purpose? Can’t figure it out
The valve can only be closed; if there is internal leakage, it cannot provide isolation. In actual production, there is a saying: “Never trust that a valve can be completely closed.””
Agree with what was said above: the valve cannot be fully closed, or improper operation on site caused it to not close properly.

In the chemical industry, blind plates are necessary for pipes that require absolute isolation; relying on valve closure alone is not sufficient for isolation. The Bhopal disaster in India, which resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths, was directly caused by the fact that blind plates were not used – only the valves were closed
I took a close look at the process; I’m not sure what the function of the reactor on the right is. However, the branch you mentioned appears to be a short circuit in the inlet and outlet pipelines of the reactor, and it’s used under abnormal conditions.
