Help: The reactor mixer is stopped; the reactor is filled with nitrogen and contains no material. The pressure at the seal of the mixer is about 2 minutes lower than the pressure inside the reactor. What effects could this have? Will the seal get damaged? Will air leak out from the stirrer?
The mixer is stopped, so there is no friction and therefore the mechanical seal will not get damaged; however, air leakage is likely to occur
The applicable range of pressure difference for mechanical seals is subject to certain conditions; not all pressure differences can be sealed. For reference.
