The Ministry of Chemical Industry was abolished in 2001. When the Ministry of Chemical Industry existed, it organized relevant agencies to develop many standards and regulations (the HG series). With the abolition of the ministry, the updating and maintenance of these standards and regulations came to a halt, and the year numbers assigned to many of these HG standards remain from the 19xx period. With the development of Sinopec, the company has established its own system and formulated numerous standards and regulations (the SH series). Most of the content specified in these SH standards is derived from the HG standards, with only minor differences. Today, the HG series and SH series operate side by side, which not only causes a lot of trouble for those working in the petrochemical industry but also increases the operating costs specified by the standards, while affecting the quality required by those standards. It is recommended that the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation organize relevant experts to merge the HG and SH regulations into one, so as to avoid devoting too much effort to numerous conferences.
