Can several small tanks containing flammable liquids (1 tank of 30 cubic meters each) with a total volume of around 300 cubic meters – less than 1000 cubic meters – be installed within the facility? Is it possible to arrange these storage tanks without any spacing requirements, as specified in Table 5.2.1? 2. If the total volume of several storage tanks exceeds 1,000 cubic meters, they must be arranged in groups at the edge of the facility according to the specifications. Is it only when the total volume exceeds 1,000 cubic meters that they are considered a group of storage tanks for the facility, and are the distance requirements between these tanks specified in Chapter 6?
The fire separation requirements vary for tanks with a total volume of more than 1,000 cubic meters compared to those with a volume of less than 1,000 cubic meters; however, fire separation requirements do exist in both cases. It’s not the case that there are no restrictions on fire separation for tanks with a volume of less than 1,000 cubic meters. For storage tanks containing flammable liquids with a total volume of less than 100 cubic meters, there are no restrictions on fire separation. For tanks with a volume of more than 1,000 cubic meters, tank groups should be arranged at the edges, and the requirements outlined in Chapter 6 regarding tank farm design must also be met, including requirements related to the spacing between fire-resistant tanks, fire dikes, and barriers.
