Converter temperature

In a converter, why is the temperature at the inlet low, while it keeps rising as the reaction proceeds downward? Is this because the heat released by the reactions above is transferred to the lower sections, where further reactions occur at high temperatures and more heat is released? Why is the reaction temperature below the transformation catalyst at 450°C, rather than being controlled at 220°C, the same as the temperature of the catalyst above? I hope fellow sailors can give some guidance
With isothermal transformation, the bed temperature remains essentially the same
The transformation is an exothermic reaction; as the hot gas moves downward, it heats the lower layers.
