Diatomite is added to the additive tank; each bag contains 25 kg, and 2–3 bags are used per batch, which is added intermittently once a day. The additive tank contains Class A and B flammable and explosive materials. Currently, the manhole is on the second floor, leading into a DN250 pipe; it is controlled by double butterfly valves that are operated manually. If the particle size of your diatomaceous earth is not high, it is difficult for it to form bridges and absorb water; in such cases, two storage tanks can be installed – a larger one above that can hold enough diatomaceous earth for 8 hours, and a smaller tank below that can serve as a separation device for feeding the material. The two tanks are connected by flexible bags, and the shut-off valves at the top and bottom cannot be opened simultaneously. A weighing and measurement device should also be included. The operation is as follows. 1. Diatomaceous earth is transported from the ground to the first large storage tank above via air or mechanical means. 2. The large storage tank is equipped with a star-shaped discharge valve at its bottom, which allows for controlled discharge of material as long as a minimum level of material remains in the tank. 3. The discharge valve at the bottom of the small storage tank is closed, while the feed valve at the top of the same tank is opened; the star-shaped discharge valve is then activated, and the loading mechanism measures the amount of material that has been loaded. Once this amount is reached, the feed valve and the star-shaped discharge valve are shut off. 4. Depending on the process parameters – either automatically (on a scheduled basis or based on other operational parameters) or manually – the discharge valve at the bottom of the small storage tank is opened to release another batch of diatomaceous earth. If necessary, a shaking mechanism can be used. Note: In the case of pneumatic conveying, large storage tanks require dust removal devices; in the case of mechanical conveying, the equipment along the conveying path needs to be sealed. Small particles can be conveyed by pneumatic means, while larger particles can be conveyed mechanically. Whether the material is in bag form or tank form, there are appropriate automatic devices available for this purpose.
