Are there any differences between butt-welded and socket-welded flanges for steel pipes lined with plastic or PTFE?
Flanges for steel-lined plastic or steel-lined PTFE pipes come in two types: slip-on flanges and butt-weld flanges. The main difference between the two lies in the connection method and sealing performance. Butt weld flanges are used to weld flanges to pipes, and they are typically employed for pipe connections in high-pressure and high-temperature environments, offering excellent sealing properties and strength. Flat welding flanges, on the other hand, fix the flange to the pipe using mechanical connections such as bolts, and are typically used for pipe connections in low-pressure and low-temperature environments. Compared to butt weld flanges, slip weld flanges are easier to install and remove, but their sealing performance is slightly inferior to that of butt weld flanges. Therefore, when selecting the flange type for steel-lined plastic or steel-lined PTFE pipes, it is necessary to take into comprehensive consideration factors such as the pipe’s operating environment and working pressure. -
