The function of the drain pipe is to prevent liquid or vapor from leaking out when the safety valve activates, due to factors such as temperature or pressure of the medium; by removing these leaked substances through the drain pipe, it is possible to ensure the safety of the equipment and the working environment. .
Steam safety valves or discharge outlets that are positioned with the opening facing upward must be equipped with drain pipes
It’s not specified in the standards, but generally, a pipe is added to steam vent safety valves to prevent water from accumulating at the bottom of the elbow and flowing back into the valve, which could cause rusting.
Generally, a small hole is made below the safety valve vent pipe – this is the weep hole – through which water accumulates can be drained. The tear hole outlet allows water to be drained to the ground, preventing rusting below the tear hole. Failing to open the tear hole can cause water to accumulate in the drain pipe, which may even affect the operation of the safety valve.
