I have been working on the storage and transportation of styrene recently, and I would like to ask about the antipolymerization agents used in styrene storage tanks – these agents require an oxygen content of 8%. The client mentioned that there is an oxygen-nitrogen mixer that can automatically adjust compressed air and nitrogen to create an environment with an 8% oxygen content. However, I asked experts in the chemical industry, and they said that there is only an oxygen-nitrogen analyzer; they have never heard of such an oxygen-nitrogen mixer. Also, I would like to ask what kind of filter is used before the styrene pump – is it a Blue type? The owner said there are cover-type filters that allow the addition of polymerization inhibitors; since this material tends to polymerize easily, I wonder if a backwash filter is necessary. In the storage and transportation of styrene, it is indeed necessary to prevent polymerization reactions, and antipolymerizing agents usually need to be used in an environment containing a certain amount of oxygen. Oxygen-nitrogen mixers are not very common; their function is to mix compressed air with nitrogen in a certain ratio in order to achieve the desired oxygen content. But in most cases, it is sufficient to use an oxygen content analyzer to ensure that the environmental oxygen level meets the requirements. As for the filter before the styrene pump, it is usually used to remove solid particles that could cause blockages in the storage tank or pipelines. Cover-type filters can be equipped with polymerization inhibitors, but for liquids that tend to polymerize, backwash filters are more effective, as they allow the accumulation on the filter elements to be removed through backwashing, thereby reducing maintenance needs and downtime.
